Episode 3
Coach Hwang has enough of the 18SX view and tells Eun-dong to cover up. Eun-dong frets about the clothes - now much too small for his buff physique. Just then, he hears the bus honks and runs out anxiously. He spots Soo-bin and Tae-gi (specky) who bow to him respectfully, and asks hopefully if they recognizes him. They rub their hands in glee, thinking that he's the new coach and that Hwang is sacked. Heh.
No chance of that happening soon. Coach Hwang clamps Eun-dong mouth before he says anything more and ushers them on the bus. They're concerned about Eun-dong who's not here yet so Coach lies that Eun-dong's uncle came by to inform him that Eun-dong would not make it. He assures them that he'd make sure Eun-dong joins them. Eun-dong struggles desperately to free himself only to have the Coach slings him over the shoulders and carry him off.
Coach puts him in a cage, effectively imprisoning him by sitting on top of the door. Eun-dong continues begging to be freed, he desperately wants to join his friends for the swimming camp. But no one is more anxious than poor Coach - Eun-dong was his meal ticket and now he's disappeared because of adult ED. (To avoid confusion, adult Eun-dong will be referred to AED until his other name is known.)
He pleads again to be freed and manages to push off a distracted Coach with his new found strength. LOL. Can't say all those biceps are useless.
AED takes off immediately though he does stop to admire his new body and muscles. Heh. He's got an admirer though. A girl calls out to him, addressing him as "oppa", something he's still not accustomed to. The girl is promoting coffee for the shop she works at and is clearly attracted to AED. He asks for her phone to browse the internet to check for Soon-sim's current events. Coffee girl drools over him and tries to angle for a date. AED is amazed at his new found popularity and smirks in anticipation of Soon-sim's reaction.
Tae-ri wakes up to find headlines about the antique clock splashed all over the front page of the newspaper. In the museum, Seung-jae frowns as he reads about it. He receives a call from Soon-sim who basically blackmails him into attending her signing event.
Tae-ri receives report that the damage to the antique clock is consistent with human sabotage as opposed to normal degradation process. She immediately asks for Seung-jae, not impressed that he's attending some signing event at such a crucial moment.
Soon-sim is still sulking about yesterday's events and demands that Seung-jae apologizes, explains or coaxes her. Anything to appease her. Her threats to absent herself from the signing event does not work at all as a pissed Seung-jae tells her to pack up and leave. Her habit of mixing personal agenda with work does not sit well with Seung-jae who tells her that all her endorsement contracts will also be null. Realizing she's lost, Soon-sim gives in, annoyed.
AED arrives at the signing event and bulldozes his way to the table. Soon-sim does not recognize him at all and takes him for an overzealous uncle-category fan. (How can that be possible?!! She looks older than he is! Duh.) AED ask to speak to her in private, bringing up her engagement subject. LOL. Guess she's pretty luckless today being at the losing end of every confrontation.
After the signing event, Soon-sim meets AED with apprehension but tries to maintain an amiable front. She apologizes for being late but AED quips that it's no big deal, since he's already waited 14 years for her to marry him. Soon-sim continues to feign ignorance while he remarks that she's hasn't changed a bit. Then he proceeds to list his features - deep-set eyes, high-bridged nose, sexy lips and cute ear lobes - all of which are supposed to make him identifiable to her. Heh. He even goes as far as to showing her the birthmark on the back of his neck which finally alarms her enough to drop the nice facade and slaps him away.
Next, AED speaks of the calluses on her foot, which should be something only he knows. In fact, he knows she has one right now on her big toe. He tries to prove his point by removing her boots only to freak her out even more. She kicks him down-under and he writhes on the floor in pain. Ouch!
A little distance away, Tae-ri catches up with Seung-jae and throws the newspaper at him in disdain while questioning his motive for leaking the news to the press. The fact that the previously well-functioning CCTVs suddenly malfunctioned, the news is published before the employees have even clocked in for work and that it's published on Dae Dong Newspaper - all points unfavorably to Seung-jae.
AED pushes Seund-jae away, anxious to protect his girl, still unaccustomed to his newly acquired strength. AED recognizes Tae-ri and tells her not to concern herself with the undeserving Seung-jae. AED declares that he saw what Seung-jae did last night, clearly. He's talking about Seung-jae and Soon-sim kissing of course but his ambiguous declaration can be misconstrued as Seung-jae sabotaging the clock from Tae-ri's point of view.
Tae-ri walks off, deep in thought. A helpless Seung-jae also leaves them. When AED tries to stop Soon-sim from following Seung-jae, all he gets is a slap in return.
Soon-sim is mortified, thinking that Eun-dong sold her out. Why else would a total stranger knows about her calluses? AED gives chase and manages to scribble a phone number on her car before a nervous Soon-sim urges to driver to drive away.
Seung-jae receives a call from the Vice President, who's the real culprit behind the news leak. But it's not like Seung-jae can betray one boss to another. Tough.
Tae-ri checks the CCTV footage which only shows Seung-jae entering a construction area with no CCTV coverage. She recalls AED's warning and instructs the staff to find a man who fits his description.
AED returns to the swimming pool where Coach is still staring at the torn swimming trunks, baffled by the day's events. AED asks eagerly if Soon-sim called, since he'd actually given her Coach's number. Coach is majorly pissed and threatens to call the cops but AED snatches his handphone. AED evades Coach's attacks and responds in a way (karate-chop gestures) familiar enough that Coach finally acknowledges him as Eun-dong. Phew...it took forever. A relieved AED jump-hugs his coach, just like a kid.
AED worries about his no-show at the swimming camp, which could very well spell the end of his promising swimming career and jeopardizes his relationship with Soon-sim. Coach is more hopeful - the plan now is to restore him back to his original self before the day after tomorrow. After all, mum already thinks he boarded the bus and the school was told that he's held up with problems at home and would only join the group later. All that matters now is to find the way to change him back. Coach's first thought was how the switch happened when he was swimming. AED jumps into the pool, like one second later. Heh.
In the next scene, we see a girl dancing to the tune of AppleHead's song when the lights go out suddenly. It's Tae-ri with a birthday cake for Na Hong-sil (Soy) who is also a member of the AppleHead. Hong-sil was scouted and returned to Korea to join the entertainment business. Tae-ri recognizes Soon-sim from the posters. Hong-sim remarks a little enviously that Soon-sim is quite the perfect package and largely considered as the top earning artist in their group. Tae-ri is all riled-up, thinking that Hong-sil is being bullied, which she is quick to deny. Not satisfied, Tae-ri wants to know all her future schedule, vowing to protect her friend.
AED and Coach are at a loss, since swimming obviously isn't the way. They also considered making a wish to the phone's application but that doesn't work either. AED thinks that the wine he drank during the engagement ceremony might be the trigger factor since it was said to symbolize the transition to adulthood, especially since Soon-sim never drank it. They realizes in despair that the wine is in Eun-dong's yard but they can't very well go and ask for it since they're both supposed to be in Paju. Coach asks eagerly if mum goes for exercises in the morning. LOL.
AED sneaks into his own front yard to steal the wine. But he doesn't stop there. He sneaks into his own room next to grab some necessities - all he gets is Tae-ri's namecard and condoms (gift from Soo-bin in previous episode) before he's discovered by mum who promptly chases him out. And then we have a chaotic chase scene as dad and grandpa joins in the hullabaloo.
Seung-jae checks the CCTV footage and sees Eun-dong on his tail. He also learns that Tae-ri has already seen the same footage.
Coach calls AED (he has the coach's handphone for now) asking if he's got the wine. He's already checked where Soon-sim is and tells him to hurry over and have Soon-sim drink it. Not sure how they came up with this ridiculous theory though. Heh.
The girls are filming a commercial for a vitamin drink with the tagline - "A princess's tears". Pfft. Hong-sil offers Soon-sim some food but Soon-sim makes barely veiled insults about her appetite. It's common occurrence in the group and it's obvious that Soon-sim is not a popular figure in her own group.
Someone is looking for Soon-sim. AED? No, it's Tae-ri. By now, Soon-sim has already learned of her true identity but she's not the least intimidated. Soon-sim thinks she's here because of Seung-jae but Tae-ri clears that up right away - she's here about the tracksuit-clad man. Soon-sim clarifies that he's a fan but Tae-ri just wants his contact number. Soon-sim tries to strike a deal - his number in exchange for Tae-ri to sack Seung-jae. Huh. Reason being she's uncomfortable with him working for another woman. Double huh. So what, you want him to stay home and wait on you?
Tae-ri insists she has no problem sacking Seung-jae, it's as easy as teaching an arrogant girl like her a lesson. Thing is, Seung-jae would not leave her alone and actually he is the reason she's looking for that man. It's too bad then. Hah. Her lost. As a parting remark, Tae-ri makes her self-conscious by commenting that her perfume is not suitable for her.
Soon-sim shouts at her : Do you know where my car is?
Ah yes, the number AED scribbled on her car. Tae-ri finds the car which is unfortunately swamped by a bunch of numbers, so she has to call the numbers one by one. By then, AED also makes it to the car. He addresses her familiarly, asking why she's here. She replies she's here to meet someone and he marvels guilelessly about their uncanny fate. He even compliments her looks but makes the mistake of comparing her to his beloved Soon-sim. She concedes that his niece, Soon-sim is pretty up close as well. He denies being her uncle but at the mention of Soon-sim, remembers his plan. He tries to leave but Tae-ri pulls him back by his straw hat. LOL.
She wants to asks him some questions but he's impatient to leave. Tae-ri reminds him that he'd have trouble even getting close to Soon-sim if he isn't the uncle. AED realizes belatedly it's true and appeals for her help, in exchange for answering her questions. LOL. A little slow on the uptake this one.
Tae-ri brings him to the studio where the commercial is being filmed. A quick-thinking AED switches the vitamin drink with the wine and after a few close calls, Soon-sim finally gulps it down. Almost immediately, she's out cold. Anyway, his mission accomplished, AED drags Tae-ri away from the studio feeling mighty pleased with himself.
Tae-ri is surprised and confused by his actions and his vague explanations is no more enlightening. In any case, AED is prepared to answer her questions now. Tae-ri asks what he knows about Seung-jae but AED refuses to answer for fear of harming the reputation of his beloved Soon-sim. Tae-ri is upset he's not upholding his end of the bargain and demands to know what Seung-jae did to the clock. AED goes blank, "What clock?" Just then, Soon-sim shows up and points him out as a stalker who fed her the wine and the staff immediately gives chase. Tae-ri sighs, disappointed.
AED meets up with Coach, in despair, since the wine is not the cause after all. Worse still, Soon-sim has taken him for a pervert and a psycho. He sees someone offering hugs on the streets and recalls his hug with Tae-ri. He's certain that she's the cause because it felt like the world had stopped; the air, smell, touch - and grabs his chest dramatically to illustrate his point. LOL. But his bubble bursts just as suddenly as he realizes he has just left Tae-ri - his only hope.
They immediately rush to the museum but its closed for the day. He remembers her name card and calls but there's no answer.
By now, Coach has run a background check on Tae-ri through the internet, amazed to find that she's the Lee Tae-ri, rich chaebol's daughter. And asks if it's truly necessary for AED to switch back to Eun-dong. LOL. Love that his priorities changes as soon as he realizes her identity. But for AED, it's all about participating in the swimming competition and winning a medal.
Eun-dong rushes off looking for her house. He's convinced she's made him a man. Hmm...Rawr. So, he believes he'll revert to his old self again if she hugs him. Oh I don't think it's that simple dear. Coach thinks it's a long stretch but it's not like they have any other ideas.
And so, they check houses after houses the entire night. As morning breaks, Coach is determined to make one last go at it. They split up for the search and Coach advises him to hug first, explain later as soon as he sees Tae-ri. And if he is successful, to rush to the Incheon Airport before 12pm.
AED notices an isolated mansion up a hill and sure enough, he's found her residence. The name card ensures he's given free passage but the distance between the gate and the mansion is still quite a distance away.
Huffing and puffing, he finally spots her sitting alone by the pool and rushes forward. Several guards restrain him before he manages to get close. And the guards act on Seung-jae's orders.
Seung-jae is here to accompany Tae-ri to her first exhibition but she's not the least appreciative. Watching AED and Seung-jae bicker and fight, she offers AED a choice. If AED can find out what Seung-jae did to the clock, she'd consider his request.
And so, in a dapper new suit, AED tags along as Tae-ri makes her exhibition tour. He's desperate to get close enough for a hug but the guard assigned to him is doing a hell of a job restraining him.
He finally frees himself long enough to make a run towards Tae-ri, but he slips at the last moment and the inertia from his run propels them both into the pool. Whooopssie.
Thoughts:
Kim Ki-bum looks like a boy. Much too young to be legal...the amazing abs notwithstanding. And the fact that he's playing a character with a 14 year old mentality makes his youthfulness even more blinding. As of now, there's no way in hell I'll buy that he'd fall in love with Tae-ri. Please prove me wrong, drama!
I'm not sure why but I actually think Coach Hwang is stealing all the scenes he's in. He's got great comedic timing and I love watching his scenes. He actually reminds me of Soo-kyung in QIHM. Gawd everything reminds me of that drama. Anyway, Eun-dong's family members are all fantastic actors and I hope we get to see more of them in future episodes as well. As opposed to Soon-sim. I'm so annoyed with her right now. Am I to believe she'll change for the better in later episodes? Because I just can't stand her right now. Grrr.
I hope the story picks up soon because I'm still not feeling that draw yet. At least next episode seems a little promising from the preview. Let's hope it delivers.
